An old Italian house, lit for Christmas night. Casa della Fontana captures the romance of a weathered Neapolitan home in the great presepe tradition: a tall brick chimney, a crumbling stone arch and a broken roof overgrown with branches and moss. Through the arch, a warmly lit upper room shelters Mary and baby Jesus in the manger, while a stone staircase winds down to a cobbled courtyard, an arched brick room with a round window, and a little wall fountain.
Every surface is shaped by hand from natural cork, wood, moss and paper — from the cracked flagstones to the aged plaster and brickwork. Switch it on and the rooms glow amber, drawing the eye into each doorway and window, while the included electric pump sends water flowing from the little wall fountain.
A rare collector's piece. Handmade Italian presepi of this detail are seldom seen in Australia, and only 4 are available — a statement centrepiece to treasure every Christmas.
