Fès Filigrane Hand-Painted Ceramic Basin with Gold Rim

This basin is handmade in Fès, a city known for centuries of ceramic craftsmanship, and each one is shaped and painted by artisans. It's precise and graphic, with a quiet luxury.

The Fès Filigrane Basin is painted in fine black linework on bright ivory. A lattice of overlapping arcs sweeps down towards the drain like a net or fish scales, with a tiny dot in the centre of each arc. Two bands of checkerboard frame the design, one below the rim and one around the drain, and fine concentric rings add to the effect. The pattern continues around the outside of the bowl. A polished gold rim finishes the top edge and adds warmth to the monochrome palette.

Every line and dot is painted by hand. This takes real patience and skill, and it gives the pattern a delicacy that printed ceramics can't match. No two basins are quite the same.

The flared bowl sits above the counter and shows off the whole painted interior. It pairs beautifully with brushed brass or aged gold tapware, cream marble, limestone and travertine benchtops, and warm plastered walls. It suits Art Deco, Parisian, monochrome, Hollywood Regency and luxury contemporary interiors, and makes a sophisticated statement in a powder room or ensuite.

Each basin is made to order. Sizes start at 20 cm in diameter for compact powder rooms and guest bathrooms, and go up to larger statement sizes for main bathrooms and double vanities. Tell us your preferred diameter and your benchtop layout, and we'll confirm the dimensions, lead time and freight before production begins.

Care

Clean with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Take extra care around the gold rim: avoid scouring pads, bleach and harsh chemicals, which can wear the finish over time.

Each basin is hand-thrown and hand-painted, so slight variations in pattern, colour, glaze, rim finish and dimensions are natural to the craft and part of its charm. Waste, pop-up and tapware are sold separately. Installation by a licensed plumber is recommended.
