This basin is handmade in Fès, a city known for centuries of ceramic craftsmanship, and each one is shaped and painted by artisans. It's bold and expressive, and finished in gold.

The Fès Encre Basin is painted in deep ink-black on bright white. Sweeping tulip blooms, curling tendrils and scrolling leaves rise from a bold eight-pointed star around the drain. Their fluid brushstrokes look almost like calligraphy. The pattern continues around the outside of the straight-sided drum, and a polished gold rim frames the design.

Every stroke is painted by hand, so the design has an energy and confidence that printed ceramics can't match. No two basins are quite the same.

The drum shape sits above the counter, so both the painted exterior and the gold rim are on show. It pairs well with brushed brass or aged gold tapware, and with cream marble, limestone or travertine benchtops and warm plastered walls. It also looks striking against dark stone or timber. It suits Moroccan, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency and monochrome interiors, as well as luxury contemporary ones, and makes a dramatic focal point in a powder room or ensuite.

Each basin is made to order. Sizes start at 20 cm in diameter for compact powder rooms and guest bathrooms, and go up to larger statement sizes for main bathrooms and double vanities. Tell us your preferred diameter and your benchtop layout, and we'll confirm the dimensions, lead time and freight before production begins.

Care

Clean with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Take extra care around the gold rim: avoid scouring pads, bleach and harsh chemicals, which can wear the finish over time.

Each basin is hand-thrown and hand-painted, so slight variations in pattern, colour, glaze, rim finish and dimensions are natural to the craft and part of its charm. Waste, pop-up and tapware are sold separately. Installation by a licensed plumber is recommended.
